10-year Retrospective Analysis of Electrical Burns in Children
Objective:To retrospectively analyze the injury characteristics of children with electric burn in the past 10 years,so as to take relevant measures for the treatment and prevention of children with electric burn. Methods:The medical records of children due to electrical burn injuries from January 2012 to January 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.Chi-square test(or Fisher exact probability method)and Mann-Whitney U nonparametric test were used for data analysis. Results:The mean age of the 180 children included in the study was(3.42±3.00)years old,the mean hospital stay was(20.71±10.00)days,and the mean TBSA was(1.93±1.00)%.Among them,168 suffered low-voltage electrical burns and only 12 suffered high-voltage electrical burns.152 of the injuries occurred at home and 28 at other locations.A total of 20 children underwent amputation. There were statistical differences in age,TBSA and length of hospital stay between the two groups(t=-4.236、-2.188;P<0.05).Conclusion:Most of the mechanisms leading to electric burn injuries are easy to be prevented. The main reason is the lack of protection awareness of children and their guardians.Electrical burn prevention programmes should be implemented on the basis of these epidemiological data.
