Research Progress of Estrogen and its Receptor β in Colorectal Cancer
Estrogen is a steroid hormone, which can regulate various cellular processes in target tissues, such as signal transduction and transcription, except for regulating reproductive function.Estrogen activates signaling pathways through estrogen receptor(ER),regulating gene expression through both genomic and non-genomic responses.Studies have found that estrogen can reduce the incidence rate of colorectal cancer(CRC)in women, especially ERβ is believed to play a protective role. The relevant research on estrogen and its receptors in CRC is summarized, and the potential mechanisms on ERβ in the pathogenesis of CRC elaborated.
