Objective:To explore the effects of third-hand smoke exposure on anesthesia related complications and postoperative outcomes in children. Methods:A total of 495 children who received tracheal intubation general anesthesia in Shenzhen Qianhai Snake mouth Free Trade Zone hospital from October 2021 to February 2024 were collected and divided into 3 groups according to whether their roommates smoked and/or smoked at home.No exposure group(N group)182 cases,TSH exposure group(T group)159 cases,SHS and TSH of exposed group(ST)in 154 cases.Postoperative intubation and related complications, postoperative return to the ward, and 15d follow-up after discharge were collected. The incidence rate of anesthesia related complications, length of stay and postoperative outcomes of the 3 groups were analyzed and compared. Results:There were no significant differences in the incidence of anesthesia-related complications, the rate of postoperative analgesia, the rate of re-visit after discharge and the rate of secondary hos-pitalization among the 3 groups(P>0.05).There were statistical differences in the incidence of postoperative respiratory symptoms, anesthesia time, operation time, hospital stay and post-discharge respiratory symptoms among the 3 groups(P<0.05).The incidence of postoperative respiratory symptoms in T group was higher than that in N group and ST group(P<0.05).The duration of anesthesia, operation and hospital stay in ST group were longer than those in N group and T group(P<0.05).The operation time and hospital stay in T group were longer than those in N group(P<0.05).The incidence of respiratory symptoms after discharge in T group and ST group was higher than that in N group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Children who received tracheal intubation under general anesthesia were affected by third-hand smoke exposure.Although respiratory symptoms appeared after surgery, the incidence of anes-thesiation-related complications did not increase. However, respiratory symptoms still occurred after discharge, which should be paid attention to.
