Strategies for Enhancing the Integration of Chinese into the United Kingdom's National Education System within the Context of Multicultural Foreign Language Education
With different foreign language education policies implemented in the four regions of the UK,the integration of Chinese into the national education system exhibits various characteristics:England actively cooperates with China to promote Chinese as one of the mainstream languages in foreign language education;the Welsh government and Confucius Institutes have estab-lished strategic partnerships to carry out Chinese language teaching projects in primary and secondary schools;the Confucius Institute in Northern Ireland provides high quality services for the multicultural development of primary and secondary schools;and the Scottish National Centre for Languages allocates resources to promote the widespread integration of Chinese into prima-ry and secondary schools across the region. The foreign language education policies in the UK,which advocate multicultural recognition, emphasize partnership, and pursue practical culture, have created favorable conditions for the integration of Chi-nese into the national education system. In this new stage of development,China should comply with the local language educa-tion policies, highlight the diverse value of Chinese, fully stimulate the initiative of different participants, build a new model of cooperation between China and the UK,utilize the distinctive features of regional differences to guide the development accord-ingly and to create a new situation in of integrating Chinese into the British/UK's national education system.
