New Progresses in 150 000 Regional Geological Survey in the Heping Area,Northeastern Guangdong Province
Based on the International Chronostratigraphic Chart(2021),the project called"1∶50 000 regional geological survey of Heping area in northeast Guangdong province"project is completed. The project revised the sequence stratigraphy of the study area;and developed the multi-stratigraphic comparison and correlation system. The migmatite zone defined by previous geologists around the Beiling Town is now divided into metamorphic sedimentary rocks and metamorphic granites. The igneous rocks are been divided into 59 intrusive bodies or 15 mapping units according to lithological feature, field contacting relation and isotope age.A large amount of precise U-Pb zircon dating data were obtained to conclude the ages and history of the igneous rocks. The geochemical features of igneous rocks were considered to build the regional structural frame and explain the structural evolution history of the area. The triple mapping method was applied to determine the facies of volcanic rocks, the distribution of the volcanic edifices, and the different cycles of volcanic activities across the area. This project systematically concluded the lithology, geochemical characteristics and the formation mechanism of the volcanic rocks.A new volcanic formation, named as Chayuanshan Formation, has been discovered near the Fengshuba area, and the zircon age of 440.5±6.0 Ma suggested that this volcanic rocks was formed in Early Silurian. We also identified the different deformation stages in the geological history, and examined the characteristics of Heyuan Fault Zone in the study area.We reported multiple newly discovered mineral occurrences and mineralized occurrences.Last but not least, volcanic clay-type lithium deposit in a late Cretaceous sedimentary basin in the study area is reported, which will contribute to mineral exploration in the future.
