Study on the Threshold Effect of Rural Human Capital on Urban-rural Income Gap
Based on provincial panel data from 2000 to 2020,the paper uses threshold model to test the nonlinear relationship between rural human capital and urban-rural income gap.The results show:The impact of rural human capital on the urban-rural income gap has a significant dual-threshold effect, and as the stock of rural human capital increases, its role in narrowing the urban-rural income gap has increased significantly;the level of economic development, urbanization, and financial support for agriculture can all significantly narrow the urban-rural income gap.Financial development and opening up have no significant impact on the urban-rural income gap, while the upgrading of the industrial structure has worsened the urban-rural income gap.The rural human capital in most provinces has crossed the second threshold, and can significantly narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas. Therefore, investment in rural education should be further increased to improve the average quality of rural human capital. At the same time,we should increase fiscal expenditure and investment to promote regional economic development, promote the process of urbanization, and take effective measures to curb the negative impact of industrial structure upgrading on the urban-rural income gap.
