On the"Exquisite Poverty"Phenomenon:The Internal Logic of Symbolic Consumption's Impact on College Students'Campus Loan
Along with the transformation and upgrading of the consumption structure,college students are increasingly advocating"exquisite"image to interpret their yearning and love for a better life,and using campus loans and other borrowing behaviors to maintain their"exquisite"persona.Based on the theory of symbolic consumption,the paper analyze how symbolic consumption phenomena such as trend-following consumption,show-off consumption and taste-based consumption appear in college students'exquisite pursuit.The reasons why symbolic consumption appears in the exquisite pursuit of college students are analyzed from four aspects:the motivation of seeking common ground and differences,the impact of youth subculture,the influence of the new economic mode,and the assistance of the mass media.The development of college students from pursuing an exquisite life to being"exquisite poverty"stems from the deviation in the definition of the exquisite pursuit,equating the pursuit of refinement with symbolic consumption,overly exquisite on material consumption,and at the same time using campus loans to maintain the so-called exquisite persona.Therefore,the problem of"exquisite poverty"among college students should be solved in three aspects:implementing the supervision of campus loans and establishing warning mechanism for prevention and control,carrying out education on the concept of consumption to create a healthy consumption culture,and strengthening education on ideals and beliefs and culti vating correct values,so as to help college students to develop reasonable consumption and a positive outlook on life and values.
