TheInequality of Opportunity in the Income Gap of Rural Residents in China
Based on the"Environment-Effort"framework,combined with the Logarithmic Bias Mean Index(MLD)and the Unfair Logarithmic Bias Mean Index(AMLD),CFPS2020 data was used to study the is-sue of opportunity inequality in the income gap of farmers in China. The research results indicate that the MLD index of income gap among farmers in China is 0.488,with the share caused by unequal opportuni-ties ranging from 51.0%to 58.4%.From a sample perspective, there is a higher proportion of unequal opportunities in income distribution among groups of young age, female, and farmers in the central and western regions. The calculation results based on different caliber indicate that urban migration can pro-vide more fair opportunities for farmers to increase their income. In addition, the regression results of the moderating effect indicate that, time dividend, gender discrimination and regional segmentation affect the income-increasing effect of individual effort. In order to reduce the opportunity inequality in the income gap of rural residents,it is necessary to continuously improve production efficiency, further advance the equality of basic public services between regions and urban and rural areas, rationally guide the flow of farmers, and continuously regulate the labor market.
