Effect and Mechanism of the Reform of"Price-Compensation Separation"on China's Maize Production
Based on the municipal panel data of six major corn producing provinces from 2009 to 2020,this paper uses theDID model and Intermediate Effect Model to explore the impact of"separation of price and subsidy"reform on China's corn production and its impact mechanism. The results show that:the de-coupling policy has significantly reduced the corn planting area, increased the yield per unit area, and decreased the total corn production. From a dynamic perspective, the impact on corn production is time-sensitive,and this impact weakens over time.In terms of the influencing mechanism, the decoupling pol-icy reduces the corn planting area by increasing the proportion of competitive crops and promotes the opti-mization of the grain crop planting structure. For the yield per unit area of corn, the decoupling policy promotes the yield per unit area by increasing the level of agricultural mechanization. As for the total corn production, the negative effect of the reduction in corn planting area outweighs the positive effect of the yield per unit area, and the decoupling policy ultimately leads to a decrease in total corn production.
