Regional Difference on County Economy and Farmers'Urbanization
Regional differences are important perspectives to understand farmers'urbanization.Due to differnt starting times and development conditions, economic level at county level in the eastern and cen-tral & western regions are differnt, resulting in differences in the logic of farmers'urbanization. The re-gional differences have been reflected in four aspects:the driving mechanism of urbanization, the liveli-hood model of farmers'families, the spatial span of urban and rural areas and the relationship between ur-ban and rural areas. On the basis of regional industrialization, the eastern region has formed complete ur-banization,composed of the following characteristics——market leading, peasants take the initiative, all farmers engaged in work, farmers shifting from farming without leaving hometown, and integrated urban-rural relationship. On the other hand, urbanization in the central and west regions is based on industrial hollowing out,and forms a transitional urbanization, characterized by:government pushing,farmers'in-volvement,labor-division intergenerationally,semi-farming and semi-employed,farmers shifting from farming and leaving home, and parasitic urban-rural relations. The former is a high-quality stable urbani-zation,while the latter semi and low-quality.The key to the complete urbanization in eastern regions is that its'industrial base has formed on good location conditions;while the central and western regions lack the location conditions for industrial agglomeration, and the urbanization is not stable. In the future,sec-ondary urbanization needs to be carried out in large and medium-sized cities with industrial base.
