The Effect of Broussonetia papyrifera Leaf on the Production Performance, Meat Quality and Apparent Digestibility of Fatting Pigs
The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of the production performance, meat quality and apparent digestibility of fatting pigs by dietary supplementation of Broussonetia papyrifera leaf meal.Thirty crossbred Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire(DLY) growing pigs which weighed about 60 kg and similar-day-old were selected and divided into two groups randomly(the control and experimental groups). The control group was fed with basal diet, the experimental group was fed with diet which comprised with 10% Broussonetia papyrifera leaf and 90% basal diet. The growth and slaughter performance, meat quality and apparent digestibility were measured respectively. The results showed that, compared with the control group, the AGD of experimental group was decreased by 2.06% and the ADFI and F/G were increased by 0.78% and 2.89%.The eye muscle area, the IMF and the sodium glutamate content of the experimental group were significantly increased by 9.96%,20.40% and 13.62% respectively and the back-fat thickness was significantly decreased by 28.57%.The apparent digestibility of CP,DM,Ca and CE of experimental group were significantly decreased by 5.01%,5.61%,15.27% and 5.72%,and the P was apparently increased by 10.90%.In conclusion, the proper proportion addition of Broussonetia papyrifera leaf meal in the diet of fatting pigs had positive effect to improve the meat quality, while had no negative effects on production performance.
