What is the First-Class Undergraduate Education in the Minds of Students—Analysis Based on"Means-End Chain"Model
This study adopts the"Means-End Chain"model to explore what constitutes first-class undergraduate education from the perspective of students.Through in-depth interviews with 40 undergraduate students using the soft ladder method, the study collects the students'perceptions of first-class undergraduate education. The obtained information is classified, coded, and visualized through a lad-der matrix table and a hierarchical value map.The study found that in the minds of students,first-class undergraduate education should possess six fundamental attributes:a well-developed educational model, highly competent teachers, comprehensive living support,effi-cient administrative management, diverse communication platforms, and thorough career guidance.Students expect to enhance their pro-fessional knowledge, broaden their horizons, secure satisfactory employment, and develop lifelong skills through undergraduate educa-tion.Ultimately,they aim to improve their comprehensive abilities, enhance personal competitiveness, and experience a harmonious campus environment, which represent the instrumental value and process value of first-class undergraduate education. The instrumental value of first-class undergraduate education lies in promoting students'abilities, while the process value lies in providing a harmonious campus experience.
