Quantitative Characteristics and Motivation Identification of Interprovincial Manufacturing Transfer in China
The paper uses the registered location information of manufacturing enterprises, and measures and reveals the evolu-tionary trend and quantitative characteristics of China's industrial transfer under the new development pattern through calculating the changes in the kernel density function of spatial distribution distance. The research finds that the inter-regional manufacturing transfer starts to break the traditional wild geese pattern, deriving a hybrid transfer characteristic of"westward movement"and"return".The central and western provinces undertake the manufacturing transfer in a club-like pattern, while the coastal provinces are moving to-wards"re-industrialization"after experiencing"de-industrialization".From an industry perspective, all factor-intensive industries show a basic trend of transferring from the eastern and northeastern regions to the central and western regions.Among them,labor-in-tensive industries are the main force for inter-regional transfer, but the transfer range has slightly fallen back.Capital-intensive and technology-intensive industries show a trend of reversal in inter-regional transfer, while high-capacity industries show that the eastern regions is accelerating to transfer to the western regions rich in clean energy, but the transfer within the coastal provinces of various typ-ical industries is increasingly frequent, especially the southern coast becomes the main return undertaking area.Transportation infra-structure,physical capital, and human capital are key drivers for promoting cross-regional manufacturing transfer, but different factor-intensive industries also have their own unique driving factors. This also shows that balanced layout of productive forces should not only consider the characteristics of regional factor endowments but also be based on the inherent laws of industry development.
