Gray matter heterotopia can be caused by many factors,including genetics,radiation,and drug.It is characterized by abnormal aggregation of normal neurons outside the cortex.According to the shape and location of the ectopic gray matter,gray matter heterotopia can be divided into periventricular heterotopia,subcortical band heterotopia and subcortical heterotopia.The clinical manifestations of gray matter heterotopia include epilepsy,intellectual deficiency,cognitive impairment,and aphasis.Magnetic resonance imaging is preferred for diagnosis of gray matter heterotopia.At present,the therapies of gray matter heterotopia associated epilepsy are usually drug and surgery.In recent years,stereoencephalogram-guided radio-frequency thermo-coagulation has attracted more and more attention.Cognitive,motor and language rehabilitation training is also beneficial to improve the quality of patients'life.
