Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most common functional gastrointestinal diseases, with a global prevalence of about 12% [1]. Modern studies have shown that the abnormality of brain-gut peptides is closely related to the occurrence of irritable bowel syndrome. This article starts with vasoactive intestinal peptide, substance P, serotonin, neuropeptide Y, corticotropin releasing factor, calcitonin gene-related peptide, cholecystokinin and other brain-gut peptides and their correlation with intestinal flora, to summarize the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with traditional Chinese medicine in recent years.
