Silencing Behaviour of Nurses in the Operating Theatre
Objective To explore the deeper experience of organizational silent behavior of nurses in the operating room, analyzing its causes, and providing a reference basis for carrying out nursing management reform. Methods The study was based on an interpretive phenomenological approach, with semi-structured interviews conducted with 12 operating theatre nurses in a tertiary hospital in Zhengzhou, and interview data analysed based on the Colaizzi seven-step analysis. Results Three themes and eight sub-themes were extracted:the phenomenon of silence(degree of silence, forms of silence),reasons for silence(psychological vulnerability, fear of isolation, work environment constraints),coping styles(forced compliance, seeking psychological reconstruction support, active disengagement from the environment). Conclusion Organizational silence is common among nurses in the operating theatre.Nursing managers should establish a transformational leadership style, open up communication channels for nurses, build a cordial organizational structure and stimulate the enthusiasm of nurses in the department to participate in organizational building in order to improve the phenomenon of organizational silence and enhance the quality of nursing care.
