Mediating Effects of Caregiver Readiness on Social Support and Perceived Benefit Among Caregivers of Patients with Recurrent Cancer
Objective To explore the mediating effect of caregiver preparedness between social support and benefit finding among caregivers of patients with cancer recurrence.Methods The caregivers of 259 patients with cancer recurrence in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were investigated by using the general information questionnaire,social support rate scale,preparedness for caregiving scale and the revised Chinese version of benefit finding scale.Results The scores of social support,caregiver preparedness and benefit finding of caregiver were(40.90±5.32),(17.81±3.46)and(69.17± 12.56).The social support of caregivers of patients with cancer recurrence was positively correlated with caregiver preparedness and benefit finding of caregiver(r=0.222,P<0.001;r=0.337,P<0.001).There was also a positive correlation between caregiver preparedness and benefit finding of caregiver(r=0.779,P<0.001).The mediation effect model shows that caregiver preparedness is an intermediary variable between social support and benefit finding of caregiver,and the mediating effect accounts for 43.63%of the total effect.Conclusion The social support and caregiver preparedness can directly predict their benefit finding.Medical staff should pay attention to the psychological status of caregivers of patients with cancer recurrence.
