Relationship Between Caregiver Burden and Coping Style in Elderly Patients with Cerebral Infarction:the Mediating Role of Resilience
Objective To analyze the relationship among the burden, mental toughness and coping style of elderly cerebral infarction caregivers. Methods A cross-sectional survey was used to conveniently select 122 caregivers of elderly cerebral infarction patients in Pingmei Shenma Group General Hospital from May 2017 to May 2018 by using the caregiver burden questionnaire, mental toughness questionnaire and coping style questionnaire. Results The score of nursing burden and mental toughness were(48.34±8.22)and(31.26±7.98)respectively.Among the coping style scores, positive coping style scores were(1.88±0.46)points and negative coping style scores were(2.03±0.42)points.Correlation analysis showed that the caregiver burden of elderly cerebral infarction was positively correlated with negative coping, but negatively correlated with positive coping and mental toughness(P<0.05).The mental toughness of caregivers was positively correlated with positive coping and negatively correlated with negative coping(P<0.05).The results of structural equation model showed that the mental toughness of the elderly cerebral infarction caregivers played a partial mediating role between caregiver burden and negative coping, and between caregiver burden and positive coping, with the mediating effect accounting for 26.57%and 37.50%respectively.Conclusion Reducing the burden of elderly caregivers with cerebral infarction and improving their mental toughness are beneficial to improve their coping style, care quality and physical and mental health level of caregivers.
