Qualitative Research on the Smoking Cessation Failure Among Cancer Patients
Objective To explore the results of smoking cessation failures and psychological experience among cancer patients,in order to provide guiding basis for patients smoking cessation intervention.Methods This study adopted the phenomenological approach of qualitative research with a sample of 13 cancer patients who relapse after smoking cessation in a way of semi-structured depth interview,and applied Colaizzi analysis program for analysis the reasons of relapse after smoking cessation and psychological experience.Results The causes of smoking cessation failures include:insufficient knowledge of disease,insufficient understanding of the dangers of smoking,tobacco dependence,social needs,the pressure of work and life,lack of support and help to quit smoking.Psychological experience after smoking cessation failures:fluke,timely entertainment,blind conformity,seeking comfort,guilt and so on.Conclusion Cancer patients smoking cessation failures are affected by many reasons,such as individuals,families and society.Therefore,hospitals,families and society need to cooperate together to help patients quit smoking.
