Effect of Self-locking Bracket Appliance on Periodontal Patients
Objective To explore the effect of self-locking bracket appliance in patients with periodontal disease. Methods Forty-two patients with periodontal disease treated with traditional bracket aligners admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2018 to February 2021 were retrospectively included as the control group, and 84 patients with periodontal disease treated with self-ligating bracket aligners were retrospectively included in the same period as the observation group, and both groups were followed up until the completion of treatment. The two groups were compared in terms of masticatory efficiency before and after completion of treatment, orthodontic effect after completion of treatment, pain intensity at each time point, inflammatory factor of gingival sulcus fluid, periodontal index, and distribution of causative organisms in the subgingival plaque before treatment and after 8 weeks of treatment. Results Compared with the pre-treatment,the masticatory efficacy of both groups was reduced after the completion of orthodontic treatment, and the observation group was lower than the control group(P<0.05).After the completion of orthodontic treatment, the total clinical orthodontic effectiveness rate in the control group(76.19%)was lower than the observation group(96.43%)(P<0.05).The gingival sulcus fluid levels of tumour necrosis factor-alpha,C-reactive protein, the plaque index, the gingival sulcus bleeding index and gingival index were all higher after 8 weeks of treatment compared with the pre-treatment period, but the observation group was lower than the control group. The gingival sulcus fluid β-defensin 2 levels of two groups were increased, and the observation group was higher than the control group. The gingival sulcus fluid soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 levels of two groups were decreased, and the observation group was lower than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Self-locking bracket appliance can effectively improve the orthodontic effect as well as masticatory efficiency of patients with periodontal disease, reduce the distribution rate of pathogenic bacteria in subgingival plaque, and also reduce the inflammatory response associated with patients'gingival sulcus fluid, improving patients'periodontal health.
