Clinical Features and Prognostic Analysis of Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss in Older Adults
Objective To investigate the clinical features and prognosis of sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSNHL)in older adults. Methods The clinical data of 127 patients with unilateral SSNHL admitted to the Department of Otolaryngology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University from January 2020 to December 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. They were divided into the experimental group aged≥60 years old(53 cases)and the control group aged 20-59 years old(74 cases). The clinical features and prognosis of the two groups were compared. Results There were no differences in gender and ear side between the two groups(P>0.05).The two groups of patients showed clinical symptoms of tinnitus, ear tightness, vertigo, but only the difference in ear tightness symptom between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).The prevalence of hypertension in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference in the prevalence of diabetes and hyperlipidemia between the two groups(P>0.05).Compared with the control group, the low frequency drop type in the experimental group was less, the hearing loss was more severe, and the total effective rate of clinical treatment was lower, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The older patients with SSNHL have the clinical features of less ear tightness, higher prevalence of hypertension, relatively rare low frequency drop type and more severe hearing loss, which may be the factors contributing to the poorer outcome of SSNHL treatment in older adults.
