Effectiveness of the PDCA Cycle Method in Preventing Occupational Needlestick Injuries Among Emergency Nurses
Objective To explore effectiveness of the PDCA cycle method in occupational exposure to needlestick injuries among emergency nurses. Methods A random sampling method was employed to select 56 emergency nurses from the Jinghua Campus of the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Science and Technology as the research subjects. The period from April to September 2022 was designated as the stage where the PDCA cycle method was not implemented, while the period from April to September 2023 was designated as the stage where the PDCA cycle method was implemented. The occupational exposure of nurses to needlestick injuries was analyzed before and after the implementation of the PDCA cycle method. Results After the implementation of the PDCA cycle method, the incidence of needlestick injuries among emergency department nurses decreased by 14.28%compared to before implementation, and the implementation of needlestick injury prevention measures was better than before implementation, and the score of needlestick injury prevention knowledge was higher than before implementation, with statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion The PDCA cycle method can effectively reduce the incidence of needlestick injuries among emergency nurses and create a safe and efficient emergency work atmosphere, which is worth promoting.
