Correlation Between Serum Uric Acid Level and Body Composition Measurement Indicators in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Objective To explore the correlation between serum uric acid level and body composition measurement indicators in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 305 patients with T2DM who were hospitalized in the Department of Geriatric Endocrinology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2021 to May 2022,had no severe dysfunction of the heart, liver, kidney and other organs and had complete clinical data were included, including 207 males and 98 females. The general information and test results of the patients were collected, and they were divided into group A(normal blood uric acid,180-300 μmol·L-1)and group B(high blood uric acid,≥300 μmol·L-1)according to the blood uric acid level. The clinical data of the two groups were compared, further unconditional logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors. Results The analysis of general data and laboratory test results showed that there were statistically significant difference in gender, fasting C-peptide,blood urea nitrogen, creatinine and triglyceride(TG)and glycosylated hemoglobin A1c between the two groups(P<0.05).Comparison of body composition indexes by gender stratification showed that in men and women, serum uric acid levels were positively correlated with most body composition indexes(P<0.05).There were statistical differences in body mass index(BMI),total body water(TBW),protein, minerals, soft lean mass(SLM),fat free mass(FFM),skeletal muscle mass(SMM),basal metabolic rate(BMR),obesity, body cell mass(BCM),bone mineral content(BMC),fat free mass index(FFMI),skeletal muscle index(SMI)and visceral fat level(VFL)between the two groups of males(P<0.05),and group B was higher than group A.There were statistical differences in BMI,body fat mas(BFM),percent body fat(PBF),inbody score, waist hip ratio(WHR),visceral fat area(VFA),obesity, arm circumference(AC),arm muscle circumference(AMC)and fat mass index(FMI)between the two groups of female(P<0.05),the inbody score of group A was higher than that of group B,and the rest of the indicators were higher in group B than in group A.Logistic regression analysis showed that SMI(OR=9.435,95%CI:2.629-33.867)and VFL(OR=2.527,95%CI:1.097-5.819)were risk factors for elevated serum uric acid in male patients with T2DM,and BMI(OR=0.816,95%CI:0.678-0.981)and BCM(OR=0.847,95%CI:0.721-0.995)were protective factors.BFM(OR=1.084,95%CI:1.014-1.158)was a risk factor for elevated serum uric acid in female patients with T2DM.Conclusion Higher SMI and VFL in men and higher BFM in women increase the risk of elevated serum uric acid in T2DM,higher BMI and BCM in men reduce the risk of T2DM hyperuricemia.
