Comparison of maxillary sinus bacterial culture between odontogenic sinusitis and chronic sinusitis
Objective To compare and analyze the difference of maxillary sinus bacteria between odontogenic sinusitis(ODS)and chronic sinusitis(CRS).Methods Using the retrospective study method,314 patients with sinusitis who underwent nasal endoscopic surgery in Xinxiang Central Hospital from February 2020 to July 2021 were selected. When pus appeared in the patients, bacteria were cultured after maxillary sinusotomy. The bacterial culture results and general information of maxillary sinus were extracted from the patient's medical records. The general data, nasal symptoms and bacterial culture results of maxillary sinus were compared between the two groups. The factors influencing the incidence of ODS were analyzed. Results There was significant difference in the positive rate of bacteria between the two groups(P<0.05).They were:mixed anaerobic bacteria, clostridium nucleatum and Propionibacterium acnes in anaerobic bac-teria;streptococcus intermedia, streptococcus pharyngitis, streptococcus constellation and staphylococcus aureus in aero-bic bacteria(gram positive);Eikonia rodentis,Haemophilus influenzae and Enterobacter aerogenes in aerobic bacteria(gram negative). There were 10 kinds in total.logistic regression results showed that older age, male, clostridium, aiken rodents, streptococcus angina, streptococcus constellation, streptococcus intermedia and mixed anaerobic bacteria were the risk factors of ODS,(P<0.05,OR>1);staphylococcus aureus was the protective factor of ODS(P<0.05,OR<1).Conclusion There are significant differences in maxillary sinus bacteria between patients with ODS and CRS.When certain bacteria are found in maxillary sinus culture, the doctor should evaluate the odontogenic source of sinusitis.
