Effect of semen quality on outcome of in vitro fertilization on the day of oocyte retrieval
Objective To investigate the correlation between male semen parameters on oocyte retrieval day and the out-come of conventional in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer. Methods A retrospective analysis of 210 occyte retrieval cycles of conventional in vitro fertilization at Department of the Reproductive Medicine of Nanyang Central Hospital from January 2020 to December 2022.According to the parameters of male semen, they were divided into normal group and abnormal group, and the related indicators of embryo development and clinical pregnancy outcome were compared among the groups.Logistic regression was used to analyze the related factors affecting clinical pregnancy. Results There was no significant difference in sperm concentration between normal and abnormal groups(P>0.05).The fertilization rate, normal fertilization rate and high-quality embryo rate of normal sperm motility group were significantly higher than those of abnormal sperm motility group(P=0.003,P=0.011,P=0.027).The fertilization rate in the normal sperm count group was significantly higher than that of the abnormal sperm count group(P=0.013).The clinical pregnancy rate in the normal sperm motility group was significantly higher than that of the abnormal group(P=0.026),and the sperm concentration and total number did not affect the clinical pregnancy rate, abortion rate and live birth rate(P>0.05).Binary logistic regression analysis showed that sperm motility was an important factor affecting clinical pregnancy. Conclusion Spermmotility on the day of oocyte retrieval affects the fertilization rate, normal fertilization rate and high-quality embryo rate.Sperm motility can predict the clinical pregnancy outcome.
