Role of medical academic journals in management of rumors related to major public health emergencies
Objective To explore the role of medical academic journals in the management of rumors related to major public health emergencies.Methods Medical academic journals were selected as the research object,and questionnaire survey methods were used to analyze the participation,funding and influencing factors,participation attitude,and exist-ing problems of medicine academic journals in the management of rumors related to major public health emergencies.Results A total of 1 216 valid survey questionnaires were collected from 619 medical academic journals nationwide.89.50% of the 619 medical academic journals were involved in rumor control.82.39% of journals had an annual in-vestment of less than 30 000 yuan in rumor control during major public health emergencies.99.18% of the 2 166 re-search subjects believed that comprehensive and/or professional journals were suitable for participating in rumor manage-ment.Most people believed that medical academic journals had problems in rumor management during major public health emergencies,and had not fully utilized new media technology,resulting in poor timeliness of scientific information dissemination;lack of news sensitivity and response mechanisms,and untimely guidance of positive public opinion;the lack of policy support and safeguard measures,as well as insufficient motivation for rumor control,were the main rea-sons.Conclusion Medical academic journals are suitable for participating in rumor management.Strengthen policy fun-ding support and institutional safeguards to enhance the drive for rumor control;update publishing concepts to enhance the sense of responsibility of rumor governance subjects;launch rumor governance columns or topics based on the char-acteristics of the journal itself;fully utilize big data to grasp the direction of public opinion to grasp the initiative of rumor governance.
