摘要
本文基于Hutchinson和Waters的需求分析理论框架,采用问卷调查的研究方法和SPSS 19.0分析数据,从八个英语学习需求维度调查分析广西师范大学非英语专业研究生对研究生公共英语课程学习的总体需求情况。调查研究表明:1)在八个需求维度中,非英语专业研究生在英语教师、提高英语各项技能以及英语教材三个维度上表现出较强的需求;2)非英语专业研究生的英语学习动机以功利性的外部动机为主,但他们的英语学习内在动机可以通过多种渠道激发出来;3)非英语专业研究生对公共英语课程的总体需求较高,对英语学习的需求趋于理性和成熟,希望通过学习英语深入了解西方文化,为将来进行本专业的国际学术研究活动奠定扎实的英语语言基础;4)非英语专业研究生缺乏对教学与考核两者关系的正确认识,亟须转变英语学习的理念,应逐步培养和加强英语自主学习能力,重视研究生公共英语课程的学习过程。此外,本次研究发现,文理科非英语专业研究生在英语学习需求的八个维度上并未表现出显著性差异。本文的研究目的是基于问卷调查的数据分析,探索广西师范大学研究生公共英语课程改革的有效方法,构建符合本校非英语专业研究生英语学习需求的、具有校本特色的研究生公共英语课程体系。
Abstract
Based on the framework of Need Analysis Theory by Hutchinson & Waters, this paper adopts questionnaire as the research method and analyzes the data with SPSS19.0 software. It investigates and analyzes the learning needs of postgraduates from GuangXi Normal University for Postgraduate General English Course. The investigation conclude the following results: firstly, among the eight need dimensions, non-English major postgraduates show more stronger needs in terms of English teachers, improving various English skills and English textbooks;secondly, non-English major postgraduates have utilitarian motivation, but their intrinsic motivation can be stimulated through various channels; thirdly, non-English major postgraduates generally have a higher expectation of General English Course and are more sensible and mature toward their English learning needs while they have higher requirements for English teachers, expecting learning about western cultures by English studies, thus laying a solid English language foundation for their major-related international academic research activities in the future;fourthly, non-English major postgraduates show lack of positive understanding of the relationship between teaching and evaluating and thus need changing their English learning perspectives, gradually developing their autonomous English learning abilities. Meanwhile, they should attach great importance to the learning process of General English Course. Moreover, this research also finds that both arts and science major postgraduates show no significant differences on the eight need dimensions in terms of English learning need. The purpose of this paper is to explore the effective ways of reforming Postgraduate General English Course of GuangXi Normal University based on the data analysis of the questionnaire investigation and then constructs the curriculum system of Postgraduate General English Course in accordance with the actual learning needs of non-English major postgraduates from GuangXi Normal University.
