Meta-Analysis of Internal Heat-Type Acupuncture Therapy for Knee Osteoarthritis
Objective:To analyze the clinical efficacy of internal heat-type acupuncture therapy for knee osteoarthritis(KOA).Methods:Clinical randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of internal heat-type acupuncture inter-vention for knee osteoarthritis(either alone or in combination with other treatment methods)were searched from the establishment of the database until November 30,2022,and the quality of eligible studies was evaluated. With the help of Review Manager 5.4.1,Meta-analysis was performed according to the total effective rate, pain score,Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC)score,Lysholms score and other outcome indicators. Results:A total of 11 studies were included, all of which were RCTS,involving a total of 951 cases,475 cases in the treatment group and 476 cases in the control group.Meta-analysis showed that the total effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group(RR=1.19,95%CI[1.13,1.25],P<0.000 01),the WOMAC score was lower than that of the control group(MD=-9.05,95%CI[-9.98,-8.12],P<0.00001),the pain score was lower than that of the control group(SMD=-4.18,95%CI[-5.82,-2.54],P<0.000 01),and the Lysholms score was higher than that of the control group(MD=16.51,95%CI[4.42,28.60],P<0.000 01).Conclusion:Internal heat-tyep acupuncture therapy, whether treated alone or in combination with other methods, had a good therapeutic effect on patients with KOA.However, due to the heterogeneity and sample size limitations of this study, larger multicenter and high-quality RCTs are needed in the future to verify the efficacy of internal heat-type acupuncture for KOA.
