Effect of Moxibustion on the Thermal Characteristics of Small Intestine Meridian in Dysmenorrhea of Cold Coagulation and Blood Stasis Type
Objective:To explore the thermal characteristics of related acupoints of small intestine meridian in patients with primary dysmenorrhea(PD)of cold coagulation and blood stasis syndrome based on infrared thermal imaging technology, and the effect of moxibustion at Guanyuan(RN 4).Methods:A total of 21 patients with primary dysmenorrhea and cold coagulation stasis syndrome(PD group)and 21 normal females(normal group)were selected. On the 1st to 3rd day of menstruation, infrared thermography was used to detect the infrared radiation temperature of the small intestine meridian related acupoints[Wangu(SI 4),Yanglao(SI 6),Xiaohai(SI 8),Jianzhen(SI 9),Naoshu(SI 10),Guanyuan(RN 4)]in two groups of subjects, and the changes in infrared temperature between the two groups were compared. The DP group received a single 30 minute moxibustion treatment at Guanyuan, and the temperature changes and abdominal pain visual analog scale(VAS)scores of the small intestine meridian related acupoints in the dysmenorrhea group before and after moxibustion were compared. Results:Compared with the normal group, the infrared temperature of Guanyuan(RN 4),bilateral Yanglao(SI 6),left Xiaohai(SI 8),left Jianzhen(SI 9)and bilateral Naoshu(SI 10)in the DP group decreased(P<0.05).Compared with before moxibustion, the VAS score of abdominal pain in the DP group decreased after moxibustion(P<0.05),and the infrared temperature of Gunyuan(RN 4),bilateral Wangu(SI 4),Yanglao(SI 6),Xiaohai(SI 8),Jianzhen(SI 9)and Naoshu(SI 10)in the DP group increased(P<0.05).Conclusion:The infrared temperature of acupoints in the small intestine meridian of patients with primary dysmenorrhea of cold coagulation and blood stasis syndrome is lower than that of normal women, which verifies the specific relationship between the small intestine meridian and the uterus. The temperature of intestinal meridian points in patients with primary dysmenorrhea of cold coagulation and blood stasis syndrome increased significantly after moxibustion, suggesting that the increase of intestinal meridian temperature may be one of the meridian effect mechanisms of moxibustion at Guanyuan(RN4).
