Effect of Different Traditional Chinese Medicine Iron Formulations on Iron Deficiency Anemia in Rats
Objective:To investigate the effects of different traditional Chinese medicine iron formulations on iron deficiency anemia in rats. Methods:A model control group and six experimental groups were set up.And four experimental groups received four different traditional Chinese medicine formulations combined with ferrous lactate;A experimental group received only the traditional Chinese medicine formulation, and a experi-mental group received only ferrous lactate.Different doses of the drugs were administered orally to the rats in the experimental groups for 30 days.Various indicators measured were compared with those of the model control group. Results:Compared to the model control group,no significant changes were observed in body weight in any of the experimental groups(P>0.05).All doses of formulations of the first to fifth experimental groups and the high dose of formulation of sixth group resulted in increased levels of hemoglobin and hematocrit in the rats(P<0.01).The low dose of formulation sixth increased hemoglobin levels(P<0.01)and showed a tendency to increase hematocrit, although the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).None of the doses showed a significant effect on free protoporphyrin levels in rat red blood cells(P>0.05).Conclusion:Traditional Chinese medicine iron formulations can provide obvious improvement effect on iron deficiency anemia in rats, providing more options for the treatment of this condition.
