PCR Detection and Analysis of Six Pathogens Causing Abortion in Dairy Cows in Mengjin District of Henan
To investigate the main pathogens causing abortion in dairy cows in Mengjin area, this study col-lected samples from 52 fresh aborted fetuses and their maternal blood, vaginal secretions, and nasal secretions from eight large-scale dairy farms in the region. The collected samples were tested for six common abortion-causing pathogens, including Neospora caninum(N.caninum),Toxoplasma gondii(T.gondii),Tritrichomonas foetus(T.foetus),Brucella abortus(B.abortus),Bovine Herpesvirus 1(BoHV-1),and Bovine viral diarrhea virus(BVDV)using PCR and RT-PCR techniques. The results showed that the overall infection rate of the tested sam-ples was 44.2%(23/52),with Neospora caninum having the highest infection rate at 32.7%(17/52);followed by BoHV-1 at 13.5%(7/52);while Tritrichomonas foetus,Brucella abortus,Toxoplasma gondii, and BVDV had respective infection rates of 1.9%,1.9%,1.9%,and 0.Mixed infections were found in 11.5%(6/52)of the tested samples, with Neospora caninum+BoHV-1 being the predominant combination(50%,3/6).Con-sidering the clinical characteristics of the aborted dairy cows and factors related to feeding management,it is in-ferred that Neospora caninum is the primary pathogen causing abortions in this region.
