Screening of High Quality Forage Grass and Effect of Yak Calves Breeding in High Cold Area
the purpose of this experiment is to study the quality forage suitable for alpine pastoral area and its effect on the breeding of yak calves. With the transformation and upgrading of grassland animal husbandry,it is very important to select the quality forage suitable for alpine pastoral area.In addition, the scarcity of grass re-sources in these areas and the reliance on high-concentrate feeds for calves have increased breeding costs and de-teriorated meat quality and flavor.Five high-quality grass species, red clover(Trifolium pratense),Sudan grass(Sorghum sudanense),Russian wildrye(Psathyrostachys juncea),Gannong no.1 alfalfa, and black pasturage, were planted at an altitude of more than 3,300 meters. The study observed the cutting growth rate, nutrient compo-sition,and weight gain in yak calves.By adding different proportions of locally grown high-quality forage to yak calf diets, the best forage for calf breeding was identified, providing a scientific basis for the high-quality develop-ment of the industry.
