Research progress on mechanism of action of Chinese medicine in treating brain glioma
Chinese medicine is effective in treating brain glioma, but its mechanism of action is not completely clear.Single Chinese medicinals, their active components, and Chinese medicine compounds may exert anti-glioma effects through multiple channels, which mainly involve six aspects:(1)Regulating non-tumor cells, such as reshaping the phenotype of tumor-associated macrophages, reducing their M2-type polarization and promoting their M1-type polarization, inhibiting the infiltration of bone marrow derived inhibitory cells, and thus improving the brain glioma immunosuppressive microenvironment.(2)Regulating the expression of cysteine protease,Bcl-2-assoicated X protein,B-cell lymphoblastoma-2 and other apoptosis-related proteins and matrix metalloproteinases, inhibit the proliferation of brain glioma cells, induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and block the development process of brain glioma cells.(3)Down-regulating the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor,hypoxia-inducing factor and other key factors, improving the hypoxia microenvironment in glioma, and preventing the neovascularization of cerebral glioma microvessels.(4)Developing a variety of different types of Chinese medicine targeted delivery systems to improve the effective concentration of drugs at the aggregation site of brain glioma cells and regulate the permeability of the blood-brain barrier.(5)Decreasing the expression of telomerase reverse transcriptase and inhibited the activity of telomerase.(6)Increase the level of reactive oxygen species, induce oxidative stress and lead to apoptosis of brain glioma cells.
