Plague scientists in the Qing Dynasty supplemented and developed the theory of etiology, transmission and treatment of epidemic diseases based on their experience in epidemic treatment. In terms of etiology, they agree that miscellaneous gas causes epidemics and have a more comprehensive understanding of the attributes of miscellaneous gas. In the aspect of transmission and differentiation,Dai Tianzhang advocated the transmission and differentiation of exterior and interior; Some doctors have created the theory of transmission and differentiation centered on the middle stomach, such as Yu Shiyu's theory of toxic heat entering the stomach and spreading the twelve meridians,Li Bing's theory of turbid pathogen ob-structing the lung and stomach, and Zhu Zengji's theory of pathogenic factors directly entering the lung and stomach. Some doctors pay attention to the transmission and differentiation of three jiao, such as Yang Lishan's theory of heat stagnation of three jiao,Zhu Zengji's theory of evil stagnation of three jiao;In addition,Liu Kui and Zhu Zengji followed the transmission and differentiation of the six meridians. The theory and experience of plague experts in the Qing Dynasty have guiding and enlightening significance for the prevention and treatment of epidemic diseases in the contemporary era. In the modern era,the flexibility and innovative thinking they show is particularly important in the prevention and treatment of new and sudden infectious diseases.
