The challenges of network pharmacology in traditional Chinese medicine research-where should we go?
Network pharmacology is an interdisciplinary field used to elucidate the molecular networks between diseases and drugs. Its research model, which combines macro and micro perspectives of'multi-component,multi-target,and multi-disease',aligns with the holistic view of traditional Chinese medicine( TCM),thus contributing to the modernization of TCM. However, the development of network pharmacology is currently facing stagnation due to rigid research paths, homogenized research outcomes, varying data quality, and professional barriers in the selection of technical methods. In order to address these challenges,a series of measures need to be taken. Firstly,it is necessary to innovate research paths and expand the application fields of network pharmacology, such as TCM quality control, repositioning of TCM,and prediction of adverse reactions,in order to fully unleash its broader potential applications. Secondly,it is essential to enhance data quality by improving the accuracy of data sources, standardizing data processing, ensuring precise data selection, and safeguarding the unique characteristics of TCM data, thus avoiding data homogenization phenomena. Additionally, the selection of technical methods should be optimized according to the research objectives. Lastly,it is hoped that by strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, the application of network pharmacology in the field of TCM can be promoted.
