Professional courses in higher education institutions serve not only to impart theoretical knowledge and develop professional skills but also to help students establish strong beliefs and correct values.Integrating ideological and political content with professional teaching is essential for cultivating innovative talents in the new era.This article analyzes the practice of ideological and political education within the Properties and Characterization of Materials course.It suggests using patriotic themes to reinforce ideals and beliefs,while incorporating elements such as scientific spirit,innovation capability,and critical thinking to assist in devel-oping innovative talents.This approach creates a teaching system in which ideological and political education is integrated throughout all chapters,aligning the value guidance of Four-sphere Confidence with the impar-tation of knowledge.Additionally,utilizing online teaching platforms,we propose establishing thematic dis-cussion areas and collaboratively building a course resource library for ideological and political education,in-volving both teachers and students.Assignments designed with ideological and political components would be included,and students' engagement in these components would be factored into their overall grade assess-ment.This strategy encourages students to actively participate in ideological and political education,en-hances teaching effectiveness,and helps achieve the educational goal of making a subtle impact.
