Objective To Explore the relationship between staying at home,depression,and cognitive function of empty nest elderly in rural areas.Methods From February 2021 to March 2023,a questionnaire survey was conduc-ted among 925 rural empty-nest elderly in Chaoyang city,Liaoning province,by using the General Information Ques-tionnaire,Home Stay Scale,Montreal Cognitive assessment(MoCA),and Center for Epidemiological Survey-De-pression(CES-D).Results The socre of staying at home in rural empty-nest elderly was(4.68±1.38)points,the score of cognitive function was(21.64±4.68)points,and the score of depression was(15.98±3.26)points.There was a positive correlation between the total score of staying at home and depression in rural empty-nest elderly(r=0.424,P<0.001),and a negative correlation between the total score of cognitive function and the total score of depression(r=-0.158,P<0.001),and a negative correlation between the total score of cognitive function and the total score of staying at home(r=-0.243,P<0.001).Depression had a partial mediating effect between staying at home and cognitive function,and the mediating effect was-0.067.Conclusion In order to improve the cognitive function of empty-nest elderly,grassroots medical staff should pay more attention to the situation of staying at home and depression in rural empty-nest elderly.
