Effect of prenatal depression on fear of childbirth in third trimester pregnant women:Chain mediating effect of intimacy and childbirth self-efficacy
Objective To explore the mechanism of intimate relationship and self-efficacy of childbirth between prenatal depression and fear of childbirth(FOC)in third trimester pregnant women.Methods A questionnaire was conducted on 238 pregnant women in the third trimester using the general data questionnaire,the Quality of Rela-tionship Index(QRI),Short Form of the Chinese Childbirth Self-Efficacy Inventory(CBSEI-C32),Edinburgh Post-natal Depression Scale(EPDS),and Childbirth Attitude Questionnaire(CAQ)from June to September 2022.Results The total score of fear of childbirth and prenatal depression in 238 late pregnancy were(31.18±8.86)points and(8.50±3.79)points.There were significant correlation between prenatal depression,FOC,intimacy,and childbirth self-efficacy in third trimester pregnant women(P<0.01).Mediator effect analysis showed that prenatal depression could not only directly predict FOC,which accounted for 58.40%of the total effect.It could also affect FOC through the mediating effects of intimacy,childbirth self-efficacy,and the chain mediation of intimacy and childbirth self-efficacy indirectly,which accounted for 14.11%,17.35%,and 10.13%of the total effect,respectively.Con-clusion In the future pregnancy health care work,nursing managers should pay attention to and intervene the prena-tal depression of pregnant women,enhance the intimacy between husband and wife,improve the self-efficacy of pregnant women in childbirth,and then reduce their FOC.
