Objective To understand the current status of health promotion among older adults in Shanghai, and analyze their relevance to health literacy of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),so as to provide a reference for de-veloping measures to promote health behaviors among older adults from the perspective of TCM.Methods A total of 261 older adults in Shanghai were selected by the research objects by using the convenient sampling method, and were investigated by general data questionnaire,TCM Health Literacy Scale, and Geriatric Health Promotion Scale from May to August 2023.Results The scores for health promoting and TCM health literacy among older adults in Shanghai were(50.59±6.47)points and(90.96±12.04)points,respectively.The results of hierarchical linear re-gression analysis showed that education level, monthly income,self-rated health status, number of chronic diseases, physical activity ability, and self-care ability were influencing factors of health promotion behaviors(all P<0.05),and the explanatory rate of the total variation in health promotion behaviors increased by 12.5%after the independ-ent variable was included in the TCM health literacy. Conclusion Older adults in Shanghai have a low level of TCM health literacy, while their health promotion level is at a medium level. The level of TCM health literacy among older adults is closely related to the level of health promotion, that is,the better the TCM health literacy, the higher the level of health promotion. Therefore, nursing managers should pay attention to the application effectiveness of TCM in the older adults, and adopt scientific methods to enhance their health literacy in TCM,thereby promoting their health level and improving their health behaviors.
