Research on the status and influencing factors of e-health literacy of caregivers of children with type 1 diabetes
Objective To understand the health information-seeking preferences of caregivers of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM),investigate the level of their e-health literacy,and analyze the influencing factors,so as to guide the clinical development of targeted internet+intervention programs.Methods A total of 181 caregivers of children with T1DM who visited the department of endocrinology in a Class 3 Grade A general hospital and a Class 3 Grade A children's hospital in Nanjing from January to September 2022 were included by convenience sampling meth-od.The self-designed questionnaire and the Chinese version of the e-Health Literacy Scale(eHEALS)were used to investigate the caregivers'daily online health information-seeking behavior preference and e-health literacy,and the influencing factors were analyzed.Results Only 66(36.46%)caregivers qualified for the eHEALS,and the total score of eHEALS was(29.47±4.88)points,among which the dimension of the decision-making ability scored the lowest,which was(3.54±0.76)points.A total of 179(98.90%)caregivers indicated that their common e-health information consulting tool was the smartphones,fewer(16.6%)caregivers tended to seek health information on disease-related official websites,and only 68 caregivers(37.6%)reported using online medical consultation or re-mote guidance services.The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the age of caregivers(95%CI was from-3.672 to-0.75,P=0.003),the types of commonly used tools for seeking e-health information(95%CI was from 0.056 to 2.304,P=0.040),and the types of commonly used channels for seeking e-health information(95%CI was was from 0.147 to 1.639,P=0.019)were the influencing factors of e-health literacy.Conclusion The e-health literacy level of primary caregivers of children with T1DM needs to be further improved.Based on clarifying the caregivers' preferences for e-health use,further hierarchical intervention schemes on the basis of the e-health lit-eracy level may give full play to the role of internet+chronic disease management intervention measures in the dis-ease management of children.
