Qualitative study on the experience and prevention demand of recurrent falls in the elderly
Objective To understand the experience and psychological activity of repeated falls in the elderly.Methods Using the phenomenological research method,12 elderly inpatients/outpatients with multiple falls(≥2 falls within one year)were selected for semi-structured interviews from March to December 2022.Giorgi qualitative re-search data analysis method was used for data analysis.Results A total of 4 categories were extracted,and there were 7 themes.(1)Description of falling situations:Multiple falling situations of the same person were similarity;It was easy to fall when there was a change in direction or movement in position.(2)Psychological experience of falls:Changes in the level of emphasis placed on falls;Worried about increasing the burden on caregivers;Worried about the impact of falls on daily living abilities.In addition,the respondents'perceptions of the causes of falls and their needs for preventing falls were also summarized.Conclusion More attention should be paid to the problems of direc-tion change and position transfer in the elderly with multiple falls,and the task training of changing patients position movement should be strengthened.In the future,health education should focus on improving the comprehensive cog-nition of the elderly on the risk of falling,and it is suggested that fall prevention programs should be developed and publicized by considering the motivation,capability,and opportunities of older adults.
