Scoping review of the application ofcognitive interviewing in nursing research
Objective To conduct a scoping review of extant research on the use of cognitive interviewing tech-niques in the field of nursing research and to explore the current state of cognitive interviewing applications. Methods The methodological framework of Arksey and O'Malley(2005)was used to systematically search PubMed,Co-chrane,Web of Science,ScienceDirect,ProQuest,China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and grey literature da-tabases.The search time frame was from January 1,1983 to March 31,2022.Results A total of 106 papers were fi-nally included, mostly of which werepublished in 2016 and later,includingl3 research themes with application pur-poses:Development and design(34.0%,n=36),translation/cross-cultural application(28.3%,n=30),revision(24.5%,n=26),and validation(13.2%,n=14).However,the application process was poorly reported.Conclu-sion Cognitive interviewing techniques has developed rapidly in the field of nursing research, and it has gradually be-come an essential part of questionnaire/scale development and translation/cross-cultural application. However, most studies do not follow the CIRF reporting framework report and need to be refined.
