A potential typology of basic psychological need satisfaction in new graduate nurses and its effect on feedback seeking behavior
Objective To explore the potential categories of basic psychological need satisfaction for new graduate nurses and the relationship with feedback seeking behavior.Methods Stratified and convenience sampling methods were used to select 415 new graduate nurses from 12 tertiary-level hospitals in 8 provinces for a survey using the general information questionnaire,basic psychological needs fulfillment scale,and feedback seeking behavior scale from October to December 2022,and latent profile analysis was conducted to address the results of basic psychologi-cal needs fulfillment.Results The basic psychological need satisfaction of new graduate nurses was categorized as need satisfaction of the desirable type(23.7%),need satisfaction of the moderate type(44.7%),and need satisfaction of the frustrated type(31.6%).The effect of potential categories of basic psychological need satisfaction on feedback seeking behavior was significant,with both complimentary and moderate new graduate nurses having higher feed-back seeking behavior than the frustrated nurses(all P<0.05).Conclusion There is heterogeneity in the basic psy-chological needs satisfaction of new graduate nurses.Nursing managers should pay attention to new graduate nurses whose basic psychological need satisfaction is frustrated,and can provide individualized psychological interventions to enhance the basic psychological need satisfaction of new graduate nurses and improve their feedback seeking level according to different potential profiles.
