A qualitative study on behavioral experience of social reintegration in young women with breast cancer
Objective To describe the behavior experience of social reintegration of young breast cancer women and explore the promotion strategies for social reintegration of young women with breast cancer.Methods According to the purposive sampling method,a total of 23 young women with breast cancer(≤40 years old)who received fol-low-up in a tertiary cancer hospital in Shanghai from July to October 2023 were selected for semi-structured in-depth interviews,and the data were analyzed by content analysis method and the themes were extracted.Results The social reintegration experience of young patients with breast cancer could be divided into 3 themes and 12 subthemes:Per-sonal proactive integration was the initiating factor of social reintegration(embracing changes to adapt to a new life,actively seeking treatment to maintain health status,improving appearance to regain confidence,rebuilding life order to reduce disease concern,and restoring social roles to gain self-worth);External promoting factors were vital driv-ers of social reintegration(professional support promotes scientific rehabilitation,emotional support increases reha-bilitation confidence,and practical support aids in returning to normalcy);Social reintegration brings benefits and growths to cancer patients(significant enhancement in health awareness,establishment of new life attitude,expan-sion and strengthening of social relationships,and sharing experiences to benefit others).Conclusion Healthcare pro-fessionals should pay attention to social role re-adaptation of young women with breast cancer during their survivor-ship,establish comprehensive support system,facilitate young patients with breast cancer to re-integrate into socie-ty,and promote their self-realization.
