Using the quantitative textual analysis method as the leading method and Kevin Lynch's City Imagery as an integrative analysis,the article systematically investigates the constructive elements and characteristics of the imagery of Suzhou's ancient city by using Tang and Song poems as a carrier.It is found that the most important elements of urban imagery in the poems of the Tang and Song dy-nasties fall into three categories:natural landscape,historical buildings and gardens,and other areas.As a result,it has formed the cultural connotation of the unity of man and nature,a rich and distinctive hi-erarchical system,a unique water town style,and so on.
