The Wisdom of The Analects:Confucius Thought of"Going Straight"Comparison with Modern Olympic Principles
In the complex international situation, the construction and implementation of a communi-ty with a shared future for mankind require the integration of wisdom from Eastern and Western cul-tures.Comparing the Confucian philosophy of"going straight"in The Analects of Confucius with the modern Olympic principles advocated by Pierre de Coubertin,it is found that although the two are sepa-rated by thousands of years and live in different parts of the world, they have a commonality.Research suggests that"straightforwardness"put by Confucius expresses principles of integrity,fairness,impartiali-ty,and selflessness that are similar to the modern Olympic principle of"fair play".Confucius"straight-forwardness"and Coubertin's advocacy of"fair treatment"have a striking fit in opposing class discrimi-nation,gender discrimination, and racial discrimination. The value connotations of the ideological con-cepts of Confucius and Coubertin have formed a common fusion across time and space, providing new ideas for the comprehensive exchange of sports culture between the East and the West.
