The Annals of Shexian County,compiled by Xu Chengyao,is the sole local annal dur-ing the Republic of China era in Shexian County.It consists of 16 volumes and adheres to a strict structure and style.This compilation rectifies certain errors found in Daoguang's Annals of Shexian County while continuing the historical narrative from the Qing Dynasty's Daoguang period to the early years of the Republic of China.The Annals of Shexian County from this time also includes a"biograph-ical records and name list,"which greatly facilitates readers'usage and search,representing an impor-tant innovation in local record compilations.Furthermore,The Annals of Shexian County preserves a wealth of historical materials on regional geography,cultural education,and prominent figures.It also provides valuable resources for studying society,economy,and culture in Shexian County during the Qing Dynasty.However,due to its lack of coverage of modern industry and an excessive focus on chas-tity and virginity-related matters,it fails to resonate with contemporary times as effectively as desired.
