A Stylistic Enquiry into Huizhou-culture-related Tweets Based on Corpus-based Approach
This article compares the publicity effectiveness of Huizhou-culture-related tweets and those related to Greek culture in Twitter which is an international social media platform,and explores their stylistic differences in terms of tweet length,average sentence length,the number of clauses,the use of passive voice,nominalizations and interactional meta-discourse.Huizhou-culture-related tweets com-paratively have low dissemination effects,and their influence,dissemination power,and topicality are not as good as those of Greek culture tweets.Meanwhile,Huizhou-culture-related tweets are much lon-ger on average,and use significantly more of the longer sentences,clauses,passive voice and nominal-izations,but with fewer interactional meta-discourse resources.Overall,the tweets tend to be static in describing facts without interacting with readers,presenting typical written language and technological ex-planatory writing style characteristics.The research suggests that Huizhou-culture publicity professionals optimize the wording of tweets by employing the stylistic features adopted by their Greek counterparts in order to enhance the intelligibility,interaction and appeal of the tweets,thus improving the effective-ness of overseas publicity.
