Integration and Development of Open Universities and Higher Vocational Colleges:Current Characteristics and Trend Deconstruction
The integration of open distance education with vocational education stands as a focal point and e-merging trend in the transformation and advancement of open universities in China. This study examines 26 higher vo-cational colleges affiliated with open universities in China, employing comparative research methods to analyze various aspects including the foundational landscape, educational infrastructure, efficacy, institutional background,manage-ment frameworks, and the level of integration between open and vocational education.Findings reveal a consistent ed-ucational ethos and level across institutions, characterized by regional disparities and temporal variations.Disparities in educational infrastructure are evident, with certain universities demonstrating notable advantages over their voca-tional counterparts nationwide. While some institutions have excelled in academic performance, disparities persist,ac-companied by a generally modest level of international collaboration and influence.Significant discrepancies are ob-served in institutional backgrounds, management systems, and the extent of integration with open education. It is im-perative for higher vocational colleges associated with open universities to leverage the educational strengths of open institutions, enhance branding efforts, and augment value proposition.Furthermore, there is a pressing need to stre-amline institutional mechanisms to facilitate mutual enhancement and seamless integration between open and vocation-al education domains.
