After two systematic excavations in 2020 and 2021,over 10,000 pieces of teeth, bones and other animal remains have been unearthed from Cave Ⅰ of Xianrendong Site,Lushan. In the light of systematic classification and research,it is found that mammals made up the entire fauna of Xianrendong Site, and that there are at least 10 genera from 9 families and 3 orders, including gerbils,Chinese zokors, weasels, wolves, roes, musk deer, sika deer, boars, goats and antelopes. All of the fauna are extant, and none of them is extinct. The fauna, obviously younger than that of Lingjing Site in Xuchang, bear certain similarities to the fauna of Longquan Cave in Luanchuan,Laonainaimiao Site in Zhengzhou, and Tianyuan Cave in Zhoukoudian, and they should all be the fauna of late Pleistocene. Results of the analysis of unearthed animal fossils show that,at that time, the environment of the site was a superimposed intermontane basin featuring low mountains, forests, plains and grasslands.
